Long-Awaited RPG Age of Decadence Gets a Release Date
Developer Iron Tower Studio announced on its forum that the long-awaited post-apocalyptic RPG Age of Decadence will be released on October 14, 2015, after spending 11 years in development. Yes, 11 years. Reasons why development took so long are sketchy.
Set in a world inspired by the Roman Empire and featuring magic as a key element, the game takes place after a brutal war between kingdoms, each with divine gods on their side, destroyed the land. The story picks up a few centuries later, where civilization has yet to be fully restored and violence and brutality still reign supreme. The lack of morality will be a key factor in the game, as the official website states:
“Well, if you want a hardcore, heavy metal roleplaying experience that challenges you, this is the ticket. Otherwise, take a pass. The game is vicious, both in its lack of morality and its merciless systems. If you want to be the hero of a story, run and don’t look back. If you want to be Attia of the Julii or be a power player, this is your RPG.”
Final Fantasy this ain’t. The reference to Attai from HBO’s “Rome“ is particularly satisfying. And while the long development cycle has clearly taken its toll (the visuals look noticeably dated), the fact that Iron Tower Studio stuck with the game for so long seems to indicate that it was a labor of love for them, which hopefully will be reflected in the finished product.
Age of Decadence will be released on PC on October 14, 2015. Check out the release trailer below.
