TIFF 2015: The Hardcore Bidding War Has Begun
Billed as the first ever first-person POV action film, Ilya Naishuller’s Hardcore premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival over the weekend, and it didn’t take long for the movie to garner interest. In fact, an all-out bidding war is taking place as we speak. Read on!
Per Deadline, Paramount, Lionsgate, and Dimension are vying for worldwide rights; and the bidding includes a seven-figure minimum guarantee and a wide-release screen commitment of 800-1000. The film is being sold by WME Global, and it’s expected to be settled by late tonight or tomorrow morning.
Hardcore premiered in TIFF’s Midnight Madness section on Saturday, September 12th, at the Ryerson Theatre.
Sharlto Copley, Danila Kozlovsky, Haley Bennett, Andrey Dementiev, Dasha Charusa, and Sveta Ustinova star. Timur Bekmambetov, writer/director Ilya Naishuller, Inga Vainshtein Smith, and Ekaterina Kononeko produce. Executive producers include Copley, Will Stewart, Karina Sinonenko, Alex A. Ginzburg, and Tony Lee with co-exec producer Mitch Grobman.

Synopsis:
Resurrected with no recollection of his past, a cyborg named Henry (the audience’s POV) and his ally, Jimmy (Sharlto Copley, District 9), must fight through the streets of Moscow in pursuit of Henry’s kidnapped wife in the world’s first action-adventure film to be entirely shot from the first-person perspective.
