Ridley Scott’s Prometheus worked well as both a standalone film and a pseudo-prequel to 1979’s Alien, the end of the film showing us the birth of a proto-Xenomorph. It was a pretty cool little treat for fans of the franchise, and now Scott says it will eventually be paid off. Read on!

In an interview with German site Film Futter, the visionary director talked briefly about the future of the Prometheus series, and he revealed some incredibly surprising plans. For starters, the upcoming sequel, which we’ve been covering for some time now, isn’t the only one on the way.

It won’t be in the next one; it will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise,” Scott explained about the new franchise’s inherent ties to the old, noting that upwards of three Prometheus sequels are eventually in the cards. Yes, THREE.

The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself,” he elaborated. “I always thought of the Alien as kind of a piece of bacterial warfare. I always thought that that original ship, which I call the Croissant, was a battleship, holding these biomechanoid creatures that were all about destruction.”

In addition to the Prometheus films, Ridley Scott is also attached to produce Neill Blomkamp’s Alien sequel, though it’s hard to say what the status of that project is.
