It’s being reported today that Morgan Creek Productions is selling the rights to 78 films in its library, and though that news may not be of much interest to you fine readers, there’s an aspect of the announcement that very much is of interest to us. A remake of The Exorcist?! Read on!

Per Deadline, the impending sale of films like True Romance, The Last of the Mohicans, and the Ace Ventura: Pet Detective series will swap their domestic rights to another company, though Morgan Creek has made sure to retain remake rights to five of its most popular titles.

One of those films is The Exorcist, and according to the outlet, a potential remake is being tossed around as we speak. The massive sale will put extra money in Morgan Creek’s proverbial pockets, and those funds will be used to reboot properties like the iconic horror franchise.

I’m selling the library strictly for economic reasons,” Morgan Creek CEO Jim Robinson told Deadline. “It will go back into the company to fund more production. We have a number of properties that we are looking to move forward on.”

Good news? Bad news? Well, I guess that depends on whom you ask.
