Universal Soldier Series Veteran to Helm Maniac Cop Remake
After being on the table for years, the remake of the 1988 classic Manic Cop just inched a bit closer to reality as it was announced at Austin’s Fantastic Fest that John Hyams will direct.
The news came from producer Nicolas Winding Refn, of all people, so I guess we can assume that it’s genuine.
Hyams is no stranger to genetically engineered psychopaths, as he helmed two films in the Universal Soldier franchise. So the story of a former police officer being turned into an unstoppable killing machine seems like a perfect fit for him. And when you combine that with the Winding Refn craziness that we all know and love by this point, you’ve got yourself a winning formula.
