Actress Catherine Coulson, who is probably best known to “Twin Peaks” fans as the Log Lady, passed away at the age of 71 on Monday (September 28). In addition to starring in Lynch’s classic television series, Coulson worked as the assistant director on Eraserhead. She was also previously married to Eraserhead star Jack Nance, though the couple split in 1976.

David Lynch released a statement after learning of Coulson’s passing.

Today I lost one of my dearest friends, Catherine Coulson. Catherine was solid gold. She was always there for her friends — she was filled with love for all people — for her family — for her work. She was a tireless worker. She had a great sense of humor — she loved to laugh and make people laugh. She was a spiritual person — a longtime TM meditator. She was the Log Lady.

Catherine Coulson’s role on “Twin Peaks” may have been small, but fans of the show will forever remember the town’s quirky Log Lady. Our condolences to the talented actress’ family and friends.
