Jason Blum to Co-Produce Six Korean Horror Films
Jason Blum is one step closer to dominating the world of horror. According to Variety, the prolific genre produce is reportedly joining forces with Showbox Corp. and Ivanhoe Pictures to produce a total of six South Korean horror flicks over the next five years. Although Blumhouse Productions will co-produce alongside the aforementioned companies, Ivanhoe will foot the bill for the flicks; whereas, the folks over at Showbox will handle marketing and distribution in Korea.
Of course, this isn’t Blum’s first foray into the world of international horror. Blumhouse Productions recently teamed up with Huayi Brothers to co-produce six Chinese horror flicks over the next three years. Blum is also branching out into the Indian cinema market alongside Phantom Films.
“We have always admired Showbox and are excited to partner with them on these co-productions while extending our relationship with Ivanhoe. We look forward to bringing our love of genre to Korean audiences,” Blum said in a recent statement about his South Korean partnership.
Blumhouse and Universal Pictures released M. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit into theaters earlier this month. The next big release for the company is Jem and the Holograms on October 23.
