Much has been rumored in regards to Ghostbusters in recent months, from multiple different films to all sorts of franchise-expanding craziness. All we know for sure is that Paul Feig’s reboot is headed our way next year, and now it seems an animated feature isn’t far behind.

Per The Tracking Board, Sony is currently developing an animated Ghostbusters film, in conjunction with Feig’s all-female reboot and a possible all-male feature. Ivan Reitman and Tom Pollock are producing, with Ali Bell and Kristine Belson overseeing for Sony Pictures Animation.

The animated action-comedy will reportedly follow a similar storyline to that of the 1984 live-action classic, directed by Reitman, in which a group of scientists team up to fight off ghosts, using gadgets and gizmos to capture the menacing ghouls who have invaded Manhattan.

No word yet on whether the film will center on the original characters or Feig’s brand new ones. For all we know, both teams could be along for the animated ride, which would actually be a fun little treat for Ghostbusters fans both new and old, as well as a nice way to bridge the gap.

We’ll report more on this one as we learn it.
