Jake Gyllenhaal and Other Big Stars Join Bong Joon-ho’s Monster Flick

Just hearing that the director of The Host, Mother, and Snowpiercer is making a “multilingual monster movie” literally makes me feel like I am going to die of excitement.

That’s right. Bong Joon-ho’s next feature, Okja, will be a monster flick partially set in New York. Not too much is known about the plot other than that it will likely feature an Asian woman as the protagonist. We don’t even know what kind of monsters we’re talking about here, but hey, this is the guy who brought us The Host. We’re in safe hands.

And, as with many great directors, big actors are practically lining up to work with him. In addition to the recently cast Tilda Swinton, whom he worked with on Snowpiercer, The Wrap reports that Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Kelly Macdonald, and Bill Nighy are also set to appear.

Wow. In the same way that stars will specifically try to work with Allen and Scorsese, it seems that Joon-ho is now also a hot property. The presence of Gyllenhaal will particularly lend strong star power to Okja, which starts filming early next year.

And the best part is that the Weinsteins will not be involved this time so they can’t try to screw with it to make it more friendly for an American audience like they did with Snowpiercer.
