TV Series The Frankenstein Chronicles Heads to A&E
We first heard about “The Frankenstein Chronicles” back in March, yet another upcoming project that will put a new spin on Mary Shelley’s classic horror story. The six-part series was without a home, at the time, and now we’re happy to report that it has been scooped up. Read on!
Per Variety, U.S. network A&E has acquired the period mystery crime drama mini-series, which stars “Game of Thrones” actor Sean Bean. The show was created by director and writer Benjamin Ross (The Young Poisoner’s Handbook) and writer Barry Langford (Torte Bluma).
“The Frankenstein Chronicles” is a re-imagining of the classic story set in 19th-century London. After a successful operation by the Thames River Police to nab a gang of opium smugglers, a child’s corpse is discovered. Inspector John Marlott (Bean) is horrified to discover that it’s not actually a child, but a grotesque assembly of human body parts.
We follow Marlott on the hunt for the killer behind this abomination, taking him into the dark corners of Georgian London, an underworld of prostitution, drug smuggling, bodysnatching, murder for profit and other vices.
“The Frankenstein Chronicles’ uniquely merges classic elements from both the crime and horror genres, which pairs perfectly with A&E’s growing scripted slate,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, executive VP of programming for the network.
The show is executive produced by Tracey Scoffield and Frank Doelger, and produced by David Tanner for Rainmark Films.
