Neill Blomkamp’s Alien Sequel Hitting Theaters in 2017?
I realize we’ve been bombarding you with endless posts about the upcoming expansion of the Alien universe these last few weeks, but Ridley Scott can’t seem to stop talking about those future plans, and it’s kind of our duty to keep tabs on these things. So read on for the latest!
Scott recently announced that the first of three Prometheus sequels/Alien franchise prequels will be titled Alien: Paradise Lost, and we couldn’t help but wonder what that meant for District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s planned Alien sequel, which we’ve been referring to as Alien 5.
Is that film still on the table? Speaking with The Daily Beast, Scott explains.
“I’m actually going to be working again with Michael Fassbender in February on Prometheus 2. It’s written, so I’m not chugging along and trying to work out where we’re going to do it. With something like that, it’s six-month prep. We’re going to call it Alien: Paradise Lost. We’re getting closer and closer to the creation of the beasts—how and why they were created—and the first Alien film that I made over thirty years ago. And we have Neill Blomkamp’s Alien, which will be out in 2017. We just have the first [screenplay] draft in so far but it looks pretty good.”
So there you have it. According to Scott, Alien: Paradise Lost begins production next year, while Blomkamp’s Alien sequel is headed our way in 2017. If I’m understanding all of this madness correctly, all of the films will work in conjunction with one another, expanding the Alien series in a MASSIVE way.
