Official – No Paranormal Activity Remake
In an act of complete sanity in a truly insane film landscape, Paramount, the studio that landed Oren Peli’s Paranormal Activity (review here), has lost interest in its plans to set loose a remake of the little film that could – scare the hell out of you.
From a Variety interview with producer Steven Schneider regarding Paranormal Activity, a “verite” trip into the unknown and Oren Peli’s independently produced directorial debut, “DreamWorks, under Paramount, bought it with the intention of remaking it with the original director,” Schneider says. “We had test screenings built into the deal, so we could discern what needed to be redone in the remake. But the movie tested so well, they decided that it would be the height of folly to remake a mock-doc-type film with unknown actors.”
Words alone cannot describe how happy we are to hear this. Our hats are off to both Schneider and Paramount for giving the film a chance to be seen and not rushing out a remake. Best damned news we’ve heard all day.
On September 25th at midnight Paranormal Activity will have its first official public showing at Fantastic Fest 2009 in Texas. Get your tickets here.
