Styx: Master of Shadows Getting a Sequel

Despite doing well critically, last year’s Styx: Master of Shadows was not a huge commercial success, mainly because it tried to be something new and different, focusing on stealth rather than the more familiar fantasy RPG elements of its predecessor, Of Orcs and Men. Regardless, French developer Cyanadide has announced a sequel.

Titled Styx: Shards of Darkness, the sequel promises higher production values, which should make it closer to an AAA title. They also offer some plot info:

Following the fall of Akenash tower, an extraordinary matter has forced Styx out of hiding to infiltrate Körangar, the city of the Dark Elves. Supposedly impregnable, a diplomatic summit offers Styx a chance at slipping in unnoticed, as he learns that the event is nothing but a mere façade… Moreover, the Elves have joined forces with the Dwarves, and the only thing both races have in common is a mutual hatred of the Goblins.

I can’t understand why the Elves and Dwarves hate the Goblins. Who would hate lovable, rat-faced Styx, eh?

The first game is bound to end up developing a small cult following for being a smaller release that actually surpassed many bigger titles, so a continuation of Styx’s story is certainly a welcome idea. Unless, of course, you’re one of his assassination targets.
