After reaching its Kickstarter goal in just two days back in early 2014, the much hyped game Darkest Dungeon now has a release date set for January 19, 2016. Development actually began in 2013 so what we’ll end up with is the culmination of three years of hard work.

Developed by a team of just four people, the Lovecraft-inspired game is, as the title would suggest, a dungeon crawler. It explores the psychological aspects of adventuring as the heroes begin to succumb to paranoia and insanity whilst also facing off against horrific monstrosities. Yup, we’re in Lovecraft territory alright.

Synopsis:
Darkest Dungeon is a challenging Gothic, rogue-like RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring. You will lead a band of heroes on a perilous side-scrolling descent, dealing with a prodigious number of threats to their bodily health and, worse, a relentless assault on their mental fortitude! Five hundred feet below the earth you will fight not only unimaginable foes but famine, disease, and the stress of the ever-encroaching dark. Darkest Dungeon focuses on the humanity and psychological vulnerability of the heroes and asks: What emotional toll does a life of adventure take?

Darkest Dungeon will be released on PS4, Vita, and PC on January 19, 2016. Better start sharpening your axes.
