A quick casting change has come in via THR, who reports that young British star Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game) has replaced Kodi Smit-McPhee in Croak, the first live-action feature from Oscar-nominated ParaNorman director Sam Fell.

Smit-McPhee had been attached to star alongside “The X Files” and “Hannibal’s” Gillian Anderson in Croak, which was introduced to buyers in Cannes by London-based Cornerstone Films, playing a young grim reaper living between the land of the living and oblivion.

Butterfield, who was also recently among the names floated as candidates to play Spider-Man, joins the comedy together with Stanley Tucci and What We Do in the Shadow‘s Jemaine Clement.

Cornerstone, established earlier in the year by Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder, is set to take the project to AFM next month. More soon!
