AFM 2015: Who’ll Take on the Last Girl Standing?
Part slasher movie, part character study, Last Girl Standing is generating some buzz on the film fest scene. It premiered at FrightFest in the UK, where it was picked up for UK distribution by Icon (they know a thing or two about what fans want, having recently released The Babadook and It Follows). But what about the rest of us? When can we see it?
If genre specialist Jinga Films has anything to say about it, the film will find its audience soon since the company has officially added Benjamin Moody’s post-modern slasher to its AFM slate to be viewed by distributors from all over the world.
The film’s US premiere was at Eerie Horror Film Festival in Pennsylvania, where Moody was awarded the prize for Best Director. Last Girl Standing has since been selected for Dublin Horrorthon, Tucson Terror Festival, Lund Fantasik Film Festival in Sweden, and the New York Independent Horror Film Festival.
Produced by Rachel Moody, Last Girl Standing stars Akasha Villalobos as the sole survivor of a horrific massacre in which all her friends were brutally murdered. After a period of convalescence, she returns to society, where she struggles to gain acceptance. Treated as a freak by her work colleagues, she eventually becomes like her would-be killer, an outsider with a grudge to bear. Can she escape the cycle of violence, or is she destined to repeat the slaughter?

Synopsis:
She survived a brutal massacre, but lost her life. What happens to the final girl once the credits have rolled? Five years ago, a masked killer brutally murdered a group of friends. Since then, Camryn, the lone survivor, has tried to make sense of the homicidal events and struggled to reclaim her shattered life. Wracked with guilt and paranoia, can Camryn ever have a normal existence again, or is she destined to cope alone forever?
Last Girl Standing takes a penetrating and intimate look at what happens to the remaining true victim of every horror movie.
