Scary Stories – A Documentary Trailer to Watch in the Dark
Forget Goosebumps. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is the ultimate series of horror books for kids. The controversial series has fallen victim to censorship over the years in addition to frequently being removed from many school libraries. The three books were written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell, and they featured ghosts, wendigos, and other things that freaked kids out.
A new documentary will explore the profound effect that the series has had on its readers and the subsequent controversy that followed their release. Have a look at the first trailer below.
A fiction film based on the series was announced last year but as nothing’s become of it yet, the documentary will be something to allow fans to pass the time until it does eventually enter production.
You can follow the documentary on its official website and on Facebook.
Synopsis:
This intriguing documentary will explore the history and background of one of the most controversial works of modern children’s literature: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. In the 1980s and 1990s in elementary libraries across the United States, these books developed a growing interest from boys and girls who were taken in by the Gothic tales, the whimsical tone, and the ghostly illustrations. Now the Scary Stories book series stands as the most challenged children’s book of the last 30 years and a testament to the power of something that is often taken for granted: a good scary story.
