Though this year’s fantasy thriller Ludo hasn’t yet been released here in the States, a remake is already in the works, and what’s interesting about this one is that the director of the original will again find himself in the director’s chair for the updated version. Read on for all the crazy details!

Per Screen Daily, Phantom Films has acquired the Hindi-language remake rights to the Indian horror film, the deal struck at Mumbai’s MAMI Film Mart. It was Indian filmmaker Qaushiq Mukherjee who directed the original with Nikon, and he doesn’t quite call the new film a remake.

It’s more of a rewrite than a remake actually,” Mukherjee explains. “The idea of Ludo is fluid and, like most horror ideas, is perfect for a franchise. The new Ludo will be a completely different film, based on the same premise. This time the horror will unfold in curiously unusual ways.”

The story is about young friends out nightclubbing in Kolkata who can’t find a cheap hotel room and instead break into a shopping mall, where they meet supernatural entities.
