Gremlins Star Battles Bigfoot in Nightbeasts
“This was a wake-up call for those bums” is not the sort of phrase you typically hear coming out of the mouth of an Indian shaman in full ceremonial garb as he regales an audience with a cautionary tale about the awesome might and savagery of Sasquatch. But that’s how the trailer for Nightbeasts begins, a new piece of Sasquatchploitation starring Zach Galligan of Gremlins.
Galligan stars as a father trying to protect his family from unfriendly Bigfoot creatures (“nightbeasts” as they are referred to in the movie) while on a weekend hunting trip. The uniquely named Apesanahquat co-stars as the local area Indian shaman who knows all about the hairy hominids that come out at night.
Nightbeasts is produced, written, and directed by Wes Sullivan, a 20-year veteran of the animation industry who worked for Disney and Warner Bros and is making his live-action directorial debut. He even storyboarded the film, which was shot on 35mm.
Give the trailer for Nightbeasts a look. While it definitely doesn’t look like it breaks any new ground in Bigfoot cinema, there’s no denying it has some of the sharpest cinematography of any of the current crop of Sasquatchploitation flicks.
