So many contrasting things have been said about Ridley Scott’s planned trilogy of Prometheus sequels, but what we know for sure is that the first one will be titled Alien: Paradise Lost. It’s set to begin shooting early next year, and today brings some more details about the project. Read on!

First up, per Variety, Scott is currently revising the sequel’s script with fellow scribe John Logan, and he noted that the new franchise will delve into the origin story of the iconic Xenomorphs.

This was a call to duty, really, to reexamine and resurrect the Alien, if I could,” Scott told the site. “Its role had been worn out in previous films, but one of the questions that had never been answered was why such a creature would be invented and by whom. That opens much larger, more universal questions.”

From what we understand, the Prometheus sequels will eventually lead directly into the events of the original Alien, and Scott also spoke with IGN about those origin story plans.

Prometheus 2 will start getting shot in February, and I’ve already begun now so I know what the script is,” he revealed. “Then there will be another one after that, and then maybe we’ll back into Alien 1, as to why? Who would make such a dreadful thing?

Alien: Paradise Lost is currently set for a May 30, 2017, release.
