Alien on an Oil Rig Gets a New Title and Trailer – The Rig

It was nearly two years ago that I first told you of a creature feature called The Platform starring William Forsythe and Art LaFleur about a crew trapped aboard an oil rig with a mutant monster. Been so long I had completely forgotten about the film until the other day when I decided to check on the status of it. At the time information was scarce. Now I find the film has a new title – The Rig, a new website, and a new trailer.

“When a tropical storm forces an offshore drilling company to evacuate non-essential personnel from the “Charlie” oil rig, the small but experienced crew left behind settles in to ride out the storm. Isolated on the rig, their routine night is interrupted when a crew member goes missing and an extensive search proves futile. Slowly, they discover that a deadly creature is stalking the crew, eliminating them one by one. Surrounded by nothing but raging ocean with no hope of escape, the roughnecks must survive the stormy night with an unrelenting force of death hunting them down.”

Filmed on location aboard an actual oil rig in Morgan City, Louisiana, Peter Atencio directed The Rig from a script he co-wrote with C.W. Fallin and Scott Martin. The creature terrorizing this platform was built by Davis Fandino and Matt Mastrella (both AvP movies and Spider-Man 3).

Head over to the official The Rig website for more details and be sure to give a look to the new trailer for The Rig. One thing to take notice of is director Atencio’s decision to forsake CGI effects (aside from a few green screen moments) in favor of an old school creature feature. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
