Brad Pitt Producing Adaptation of Sci-fi Novel Illuminae
Thank you, Brad Pitt, for finally realizing that nobody gives a shit about your personal life or relationships and actually doing stuff that people will appreciate. Not only is he producing Bong Joon-Ho’s monster movie Okja via his company Plan B, but he’s also come on board an adaptation of this year’s sci-fi novel Illuminae.
Written by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, it’s set in the year 2575 and follows two huge corporations at war on a distant planet, with a young hacker named Kady uncovering a secret that places her in their crosshairs. As she flees from the planet with her boyfriend due to the outbreak of a plague, she is pursued by a hostile warship that has been sent to silence her permanently.
The book is an epistolary, similar to Dracula, meaning that it is told in the form of various documents, files, reports, etc., rather than having a traditional narrative. It’s also the first in a trilogy so if the film’s a success, expect more.
Alongside Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Sarah Esberg will also produce.
