Word hit the interwebs earlier today that Tom Cruise was in talks for the upcoming reboot of The Mummy. The story seemed a little thin so we opted to wait before writing about it. Moments ago Deadline got to the bottom of things.
According to the site, they were told “adamantly [by Cruise’s reps] that no deal with Cruise is in the works for the film. He is filming Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, and Mission: Impossible 6 begins shooting in August.”
Universal’s The Mummy is planned as the first film in a series of interconnected monster films as Universal hopes to build a franchise out of its vault of classic movies. Other potential films revolve around Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, the Bride of Frankenstein, and vampire hunter Van Helsing.
