Beast of Whitehall Explores the Legend of the 1976 Abair Road Bigfoot Sighting
If you’re the sort of individual who craves documentaries about Bigfoot as opposed to the plethora of ill-conceived motion pictures currently available to stream on Hulu, Netflix, or Amazon Prime, Beast of Whitehall is something you should seriously consider exploring.
In 1976, three teenage friends in Upstate New York stumbled across a hairy, seven-foot tall monster that may or may not be the legendary Bigfoot. The encounter spurred sightings of the beast for many years to come, and many consider Whitehall, New York, the Bigfoot capital of the East Coast. The folks over at Small Town Monsters, a film series that explores the strange and unusual, tackle the mystery surrounding this deeply intriguing and unsolved tale.
From the Official YouTube Description:
August, 1976: Three teens driving on an isolated stretch of road somewhere in the Adirondacks of Upstate New York have a brush with a bizarre creature. Standing over 7 feet tall and covered in hair, they referred to it as a “beast.” Hours later, Abair Road was crawling with local and state police. Many of them recounted seeing the creature as well.
As the weeks and months passed, more individuals came forward with their own sightings. The Abair Incident became the impetus for a rash of sightings around the town of Whitehall that continue to this day. Today, Whitehall is frequently referred to as the Bigfoot Capitol of the East Coast.
Now, a film has been made about the Abair Incident. The studio behind the indie darling, Minerva Monster, has set out to tell the Whitehall story as it never has been before. Featuring interviews with witnesses and local figures, Beast of Whitehall highlights one of the single most important stories in Bigfoot lore.
Beast of Whitehall should arrive on April 1, 2016. However, despite the April Fool’s date, I’m told this is a real documentary and not some BS mockumentary. And if you’d like to read more about the encounter in Whitehall back in 1976, Strange State has an interesting article on the subject.
