The Conjuring 2 Will Likely Feature Amityville Horror Subplot
As revealed by the title, James Wan’s The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist will be centered on a real-life haunting that took place in the late ’70s, though it may not be the only case explored in the sequel. Could Wan be filming his own take on the infamous Amityville murders?
We tip our hats to Bloody Disgusting for doing the legwork on this one, and the site points to an interaction one of its readers had with actress Alexa Najera over on Twitter. Najera is credited as a character named Allison in the sequel, and she confirmed that she’s playing Allison DeFeo.
Allison DeFeo was one of the daughters of Ronald and Louise DeFeo, all of whom were murdered by eldest brother Ronald Jr. in the case that became forever known as the Amityville Horror. Bloody Disgusting also notes that the character names Ronald Sr. and Louise are listed on IMDb.
Of course, it makes complete sense that the upcoming sequel would at least delve briefly into the DeFeo murders, because it was a case that The Conjuring characters Ed and Lorraine Warren investigated. Given the fact that The Enfield Poltergeist takes place in the late ’70s, it all adds up.
Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson again play real-life paranormal investigating couple Lorraine and Ed Warren in The Conjuring 2. Frances O’Connor (A.I. Artificial Intelligence, “The Missing”) will play the mother of a girl who is experiencing a haunting and desperate for help.
The sequel’s cast also includes Abhi Sinha, Lauren Esposito, Franka Potente, Simon McBurney, Simon Delaney, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Patrick McAuley, Benjamin Haigh, and Madison Wolfe.
In addition to directing, Wan wrote the screenplay with Chad and Carey Hayes, with revisions by David Leslie Johnson. Wan also produces along with Peter Safran and Rob Cowan.
Expect the film in theaters on June 10, 2016.
