Thieves, Zombies, and a Joker Dominate the 2009 VGAs
The nominations are in for Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves leads the pack with a total of eight. But right behind are Batman: Arkham Asylum with seven, followed by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 with six each. Rounding out the nominees for “Game of the Year” is Assassin’s Creed 2.
Here’s a small sample of the other categories:
“Studio of the Year”: Infinity Ward (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2), Naughty Dog (Uncharted 2: Among Thieves), Rocksteady Studios (Batman: Arkham Asylum), Valve (Left 4 Dead 2)
“Best Game Based on a Movie/TV Show”: Ghostbusters: The Video Game, South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense Play!, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition
“Best Performance by a Human Female”: Eliza Dushku as Rubi Malone (Wet), Kristen Bell as Lucy Stillman (Assassin’s Creed 2), Megan Fox as Mikaela Banes (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Tricia Helfer as Dare (Halo 3: ODST)
“Best Performance by a Human Male”: Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman (Ghostbusters: The Video Game), Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Samuel L. Jackson as Afro Samurai/Ninja Ninja (Afro Samurai), Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Vin Diesel as Richard B. Riddick (Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena)
According to Spike, along with featuring awards for the best games of 2009, the VGAs will show off amazing world premieres of the most anticipated games for 2010 and 2011. And to add even more intrigue, almost all the world premieres will be ANNOUNCEMENTS of new, never-before-seen games.
The first is Bungie’s Halo: Reach, a prequel to the Halo trilogy, coming out in the fall of 2010. Other publishers contributing exclusive new content to the VGAs include 2K, Activision, Disney Interactive Studios, Electronic Arts, LucasArts Entertainment, Microsoft Game Studios, THQ, Ubisoft, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and more to be announced in the coming weeks.
