Anthony Hopkins Regrets Playing Hannibal More Than Once
It’s rare that horror movies are honored at the Academy Awards, but in 1992 The Silence of the Lambs struck gold. In addition to winning Best Picture, Anthony Hopkins grabbed the Best Actor trophy for playing Hannibal Lecter, and now he says that he should’ve quit while he was ahead.
In a new interview with The Wrap, the older and wiser Hopkins opened up and revealed that while he loved playing Hannibal in Silence of the Lambs, he’s not too thrilled about the fact that he subsequently went on to reprise the role in both 2001’s Hannibal and 2002’s Red Dragon.
“I did it once. Made the mistake of doing it twice — three times,” Hopkins told the outlet. “The Silence of the Lambs is okay. It was a good film.”
When asked if he’d ever be open to playing Dr. Lecter again, the actor was clear as can be. “I don’t want to do that,” he said. “Done with that.”
More Mads Mikkelsen as Hannibal, please.
