King Kong to Take the Stage in the UK Next Year
King Kong fans who have longed to see the enormous ape tell his depressing story on the stage will have an opportunity to do so beginning next year. According to BBC News, a generous £680,000 from the Arts Council England’s Ambition For Excellence will allow the talented folks at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre to bring the tale to life in what is currently being described as a “re-imagining.”
If you can’t wait that long to see the Grand Theatre’s version of King Kong, which will utilize “multiple art forms in a variety of locations,” a surprise show at a “secret and fantastical site” will reportedly take place later this year. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of information to go on as of this writing.
Grand Theatre chief executive Ruth Eastwood told The Gazette, “We don’t want to give too much away just now. These are big and important projects that will help consolidate Blackpool’s growing reputation as a place with culture at its heart; celebrating the uniqueness of this amazing town and offering new and different artistic experiences to people, young and old.”
Of course, this isn’t the only piece of King Kong-related entertainment to arrive next year. Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island, which stars Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John C. Reilly, John Goodman, and Tom Hiddleston, hits the big screen on March 10, 2017.
