Released in 2013, horror film Mama was directed by Andres Muschietti, who was recently tapped to direct a brand new adaptation of Stephen King’s It. Not surprisingly, a sequel to Mama is now on the way, and Universal has just hired a very exciting duo to helm the follow-up. Read on!

Per THR, Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch are in final negotiations to rewrite and direct the Mama sequel. Why is this such good news? Because Widmyer and Kolsch are the creative forces behind 2014’s Starry Eyes, widely considered to be one of that year’s best horror movies.

The original Mama, a big time hit for Universal, was executive produced by Guillermo del Toro and told a tale of two kids, orphaned and left in the woods for five years, who are taken in by their uncle and aunt. They unwittingly also bring with them an evil force.

Scott Bernstein and Russell Ackerman are producing the new pic. Lava Bear also is producing.
