Beware! The Blob on Blu-ray Soon!

When I wrote just over a week ago about the inexplicable Blu-ray release of The Bees, I speculated that 2016 might be the start of a golden age of schlocky cult classics getting hi-def releases. Further confirming my speculation, Kino Lorber has announced plans to bring the psychedelic horror comedy sequel Beware! The Blob to Blu-ray later this year.

For the uninitiated, imagine a sequel to The Blob made by people high on mushrooms blasting acid rock, wanting to make a serious horror film but so stoned they couldn’t stop cracking dumb jokes. Keep in mind the original title of the movie was Son of Blob.

Released in 1972, Beware! The Blob‘s greatest claim to b-movie fame might be its director: Larry Hagman, the late actor best known for playing scheming oil tycoon J.R. Ewing on TV’s “Dallas,” at that time best known as the leading man in the classic sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie.” Hagman co-stars with Robert Walker, Jr., Gwynne Gilford, Richard Stahl, Shelley Berman, Gerrit Graham, and Carol Lynley.

Synopsis:
A technician brings a frozen specimen of the original Blob back from the North Pole. When his wife accidentally defrosts the thing, it terrorizes the populace, including the local hippies, kittens, and bowlers.

No release date for the Blu-ray just yet, nor any extras at this time. I strongly suspect this will be a bare bones release, with possible exception of the film’s quite entertaining trailer, which you can watch below.
