The Soska Sisters Launch 7th Annual Massive Blood Drive PSA Anthology

Forget Tarantino’s Crazy Babysitter Twins because we’re all about the Twisted Twins here at Dread Central. After serving up some gruesomely good grindhouse action with Dead Hooker in a Trunk, Jen and Sylvia Soska went on to wow the festival world with their body modification thriller American Mary. Since then these ladies teamed up with Kane in See No Evil 2, and they are back to paint the internet a deeper shade of crimson with their annual Blood Drive PSA as part of this year’s Women in Horror Month.

From the Press Release:
February 1st marks the commencement of, once again, Women in Horror Month, now in its 7th year. It’s a time to celebrate the outstanding achievements by feminists out there and shine a light on the gender under representation that we still struggle with.

Twisted Twins Productions has for the past seven years worked with Women in Horror Month and taken this as an opportunity to shine light on a very important and dire need… Blood.

Every year, we have taken it upon ourselves to create PSAs urging people to donate. You can’t think “horror” without thinking “blood,” and horror is all about facing your fears. Anyway, what’s one small prick in a world filled with an epidemic of pricks, right?

Over the years the PSA has grown to include and spotlight artists from across the globe. This year was our first year to include feminists of any gender. Our goal has always been inclusion, support, and awareness. Many of these artists wouldn’t have their voices heard without opportunities such as those gifted from events like Women in Horror Month.

Returning this year are fan favorites and rising auteurs Jill Sixx Gevargizian (The Stylist, Call Girl), Maude Michaud (Dys-, Red), Patricia Chica (Ceramic Tango) Gigi Saul Guerrero (El Gigante, Madre De Dios), and Women in Horror Month founder Hannah Neurotica.

The fresh blooded talent includes Nicole McClure (The Unbearable Lightness of Boning), Joe Magna (Hellevator), Lisa Ovies (Puppet Killer), Andy Stewart (Dysmorphia, Remnant), and the directorial debut by the provocative Tristan Risk (American Mary, House of Manson). Our directors this year are completed with our two youngest visionaries (both 17) to date, Veronica Hampson and Kate Taeuschel.

This year’s PSA is by far going to be our most talked about and is filled with surprises for our beloved viewers, but I’ll level with you. IT IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK. Viewer discretion is advised but should be completely ignored.

With regard to Chica’s segment, “Bloody Burlesque,” it stars Tonya Kay, Tiffany Shepis, Carl Crew, Lily Spencer, Michelle Romano, Hinton Harrison, and Frank Califano; and an expanded version of the short will be presented on the festival circuit during the 2016/2017 season under the title Crimson Dance.

“The blood drive is important, and not enough of us do it. I play with fake blood all day long, but the reality is people need our real blood and our help. Please donate,” says Shepis.

“The concept of this short came to me through meditation; and the visuals, I guess, are remnants of a past life being involved with the Montreal burlesque and fetish subcultures. It’s exciting to me to see Tonya Kay and Tiffany Shepis getting the tone so playfully right,” says writer-director Chica.

Episode 268: Mind Body Spirit Filmmkers Alex Henes and Matt Merenda and The Brave Little Toaster (1987)
This week we're joined by Alex Henes and Matt Merenda, the filmmakers behind the yoga-horror found footage film Mind Body Spirit, which is available on demand and streaming on Shudder and AMC+. We chat about Sarah J. Bartholomew's fantastic performance, the script and more before diving into their childhoods and their very different reactions to horror as a kid. Then we chat about The Brave Little Toaster and how it destroyed all four of our childhoods. Anthropomorphic appliances, self-cannibalism, religion...this movie has it all and we laugh our way through describing just how messed up it actually is. You can follow Mind Body Spirit on Instagram.Follow Mary Beth, Terry and the Podcast on Bluesky. We’re also on Twitter (sorta) with the same usernames. Ep. 349 The First Omen: “The Tale of Gratuitous Facial Licking, Part 1”
Kim tells Ket about The First Omen. First and foremost, Ketryn would like it stated that she does not wish to live with an incomplete head. Neither girl wants the title “Most Catholic” and both wonder why they’ve never seen a crab-like demon claw.  Stay tuned for part 2 to meet… The AntiChrist.Dir. Ep. 347 Smile 2: “The Tale of Schmorgashbords, Part 1”
Ket tells Kim about the highly requested and truly terrifying Smile 2. This left Ketryn truly shooketh and gave The Substance a run for its money in grotesque-ness. It was simply a smorgasbord of gore and the first time in podcast history that Ket is the one who can’t quite say a word. Stay tuned for part 2 to find out what type of pants Kim needs for this one.Writer/Dir.
