Brittany Murphy’s Deadline Art Pulled By Rental Outlet
Well, it was just a matter of time. In fact, we were talking about this very subject during the latest Dinner for Friends (coming soon). For those of you not paying attention, the latest movie starring the late Brittany Murphy, Deadline (review here), which features cover art of the young actress eerily laying dead in a bathtub, has been yanked by one rental outlet.
E! Online reports that DVD rental company Redbox pulled the box art images from its kiosks nationwide for the actress’s latest film.
“We are removing the box art images from our displays,” Redbox spokeswoman Laura Dihel tells E! News. “We will continue to carry her film, but we will not be featuring the box art. We have 19,000 locations, and to be honest, I can’t tell you if this particular art is up at all the locations.”
Staffers at Redbox began removing the Deadline artwork yesterday and hope to complete the task by Jan. 1. The box art was also pulled from the company’s website. Will other companies follow suit? It’s a good bet. In fact we wouldn’t be surprised if First Look Studios decided to redistribute the film with different artwork altogether.
So what do you think? A tragic case of life imitating art, or just the worst timing imaginable? Let us know below.
