Official Adaptation of Stephen King’s Short Story I Am the Doorway in Development
We love Stephen King here at Dread Central. His books have sold over 400 million copies worldwide, so everyone else must love him too. Whenever a new film based on one of his stores is announced, we always feel the need to scream “hallelujah” (unless it’s another damn Children of the Corn movie), so we implore you to head over to Indiegogo and contribute to I Am the Doorway, an official adaptation of his short story of the same name, about a crippled former astronaut who discovers that aliens are among us.
They’ve also got a Facebook page set up. Simon Pearce, who was responsible for Judas Ghost, which we had mixed feelings towards (check out our review), will direct and edit, with three-time BAFTA nominee Phil Méheux on board as cinematographer. Wolfram Parge is the producer, and the script was written by Jeffrey Stackhouse, Richard A. Becker, and Wendy Lashbrook. King himself has given the project his blessing, and that’s good enough for us.
Synopsis:
After a journey to investigate desolate Pluto, astronaut Arthur returns home a shattered man. He sees eyes forcing their way through the skin of his hands, eyes that distort his friends and the landscape itself into monstrous visions. Believing himself the doorway to alien invasion and gruesome murder, he must take desperate action.
I Am the Doorway, a shocking science-fiction/horror short, is based on the chilling Stephen King story and fully authorized by the author. It has been adapted by Jeffrey Stackhouse, Richard A. Becker, and Wendy Lashbrook, a multi-award-winning screenwriting team based in the US with an encyclopedic knowledge of all things horror.
From their original pitch for the adaptation: “… a movie in the tradition of Argento and Cronenberg, a film of beautiful colors and gorgeous wide-screen set pieces, which frame a brutal and devastating horror,” we invite you to become a part of this exciting and terrifying new film, which will be seen by Mr. King himself!
On board to bring this film to life are director/producer team Simon Pearce and Wolfram Parge, whose first feature-length horror, Judas Ghost, was released in the US and UK in 2015. The film also had a successful festival run, receiving four awards for Best Film, one for Best Director, and two wins for Best Actor.
