Daredevil Showrunner Steven DeKnight Will Direct Pacific Rim 2
A sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has been on again, off again more times than we can even count in the past couple years, though del Toro has always insisted that the monsters and robots will do battle up on the big screen once more. His persistence has paid off, as the sequel is finally getting off the ground.
Deadline reports that “Spartacus” creator Steven DeKnight will replace Guillermo del Toro as director of Pacific Rim 2, which Universal Pictures will release worldwide in 3D. The film marks DeKnight’s feature debut, though he has written, directed, and produced episodes of shows like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Smallville,” and “Angel.” He was also the executive producer and head writer for the first season of Netflix series “Daredevil.”
The current script was written by Jon Spaihts based on characters created by Travis Beacham and del Toro. Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, del Toro, and Mary Parent are producing; and Jillian Share will be executive producer.
