Dowdle Brothers to Direct an Adaptation of Jack Kilborn's AfraidIntense. Gruesome. Relentless. Masterpiece. These are just some of the words critics have used to describe Jack Kilborn’s novel Afraid. And today we learned that John Erick and Drew Dowdle, who are wrapping up post-production on their latest film, Devil, for Universal, have been tapped to direct an adaptation of the popular thriller.

Bloody Disgusting got the early word on the brothers being attached to helm Afraid and provided the following brief synopsis:

After a helicopter crash unleashes a rogue Red-Ops unit on Safe Haven, Wisconsin, its residents must band together to defend themselves against these brutal “trans-human” killers.

Vincent Newman and Josh Kesselman are producing, and the script was written by Laurence Malkin and Chad Thumann. The hope is that Afraid will turn into a franchise in the vein of Terminator and Alien.
