It’s hard not get excited about a movie called Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre. Even if you have zero interest in hair metal, shotguns, or zombie massacres, the movie still looks like an absolute riot. And while people will likely draw comparisons to Jason Lei Howden’s insanely enjoyable Deathgasm, the latest trailer suggests it’s a completely different beast.

Here’s a short synopsis for the flick, courtesy of Loudwire:

[A] hair metal band struggling to find its own identity decides to record its first full-length album in a creepy cabin located in the middle of a notorious cemetery. Chock full of weed, coke, and booze, the band discovers a secret in the cellar and unwittingly open a gate that allows demons to possess the corpses in the surrounding cemetery. Forced to have to survive the night and with the odds getting slimmer, the band must battle hordes of the demonic undead and hope to get a record deal.

During a chat with the folks at Loudwire, writer/director Joshua Allan Vargas said Hairmetal Shotgun Zombie Massacre celebrates 80s horror films such as Evil Dead, Night of the Demons, and Black Roses.

The idea came about as an almost ‘drunken joke’ of a movie that Jvstin (co-writer) and I would ramble about when we were wasted 11 years ago. He would go on to work in bands while I would go on shooting movies and music videos and as the years go by, when the movie would come up, it became less of a drunken joke and more of something we saw as a way in which to draw from our personal experience working with music/musicians and poke fun of it all in a way that celebrates it’s absurdity as much as it ridicules it,” Vargas told Loudwire of the movie’s origins. Honestly, he had me at Black Roses.
