Upon its premiere at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, Bite (review) caused quite a stir. So what was all the noise about? We’ll be finding out soon as Screen Daily is reporting that Shout! Factory has acquired US rights from Toronto-based Breakthrough Entertainment to Chad Archibald’s horror film.

Black Fawn Films’ Bite premiered at the 2015 Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal where it won an audience award. Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout of the film across multiple entertainment platforms beginning with a theatrical launch in early summer through Shout’s genre entertainment imprint, Scream Factory.

Bite comes to us from Breakthrough Entertainment. Chad Archibald directs. Elma Begovic, Annette Wozniak, and Jordan Gray star. J. Brown, Ira Levy, Michael McGuigan, and Peter Williamson served as executive producers.

Synopsis:
While on her bachelorette party getaway, Casey, the bride-to-be, gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect. After returning home with cold feet, Casey tries to call off her wedding, but before she’s able to, she starts exhibiting insect-like traits. Between her physical transformation and her wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent eggs but feeds on the flesh of others. As her transformation becomes complete, Casey discovers that everything can change with a single bite.
