Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Directing Haunted for Amblin Entertainment
At least early in his career, Steven Spielberg certainly had a passion for the horror genre, though it’s been quite some time since he’s been attached to a horror film. But that changes with Amblin Entertainment’s Haunted, which is being described as a passion project for Spielberg. Read on!
Deadline reports that Amblin is hiring Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) to direct Haunted, a film that is inspired by the 1898 Henry James gothic ghost story The Turn of the Screw. According to the site, the project was born out of Spielberg’s desire to “make a scary film.”
In The Turn of the Screw, a governess hired by a bachelor to take care of his niece and nephew starts seeing ghosts at the country home. When she confides in the maid, she learns that the ghosts are former employees of the estate: Peter Quint and Miss Jessel. The governess begins to suspect that her wards, Flora and Miles, can see the ghosts, but the children refuse to acknowledge the sightings. She is afraid for them, especially when the ghosts appear inside the house.
Haunted was scripted by Chad Hayes & Carey Hayes (The Conjuring).
The film is being produced by Roy Lee, John Middleton and Scott Bernstein.
