No Movement on Phantasm Remake
Way back in 2005 New Line Cinema was toying with the idea of doing a remake of Don Coscarelli’s 1979 classic Phantasm. Things have been quiet since the announcement, and it sounds as if it will be staying that way.
Arrow in the Head caught up with Coscarelli, who had this to say about the remake…
“Nothing is ever off the table. You have a big casting hurdle there with Tall Man. Currently there’s nothing planned, but if you had the right director, the right story, the right direction in terms of making something unique and still staying true to the spirit of the story. You know, all these years working on Phantasm, I’m like a Phantasm fan too, so I would go see it!”
Phantasm will be playing in a new 4k remaster at this weekend’s SXSW Film Festival. The fifth film in the franchise, Phantasm: Ravager, directed by David Hartman, is currently at Anchor Bay; and release plans are pending.
