It’s no secret by now that when Dimension Films is in danger of losing the rights to a popular horror franchise, they rush a sequel into production for the sole purpose of retaining those rights. Just as Hellraiser: Judgment began filming out of nowhere, so too have the cameras reportedly started rolling on a new Children of the Corn sequel.

The scoop comes courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, and the site reports that John Gulager (Feast) is directing from a script penned by Children of the Corn: Genesis writer Joel Soisson. Specific details about the secretive sequel are being kept under wraps at the moment, but we expect to learn more real soon.

Based on Stephen King’s 1977 short story, the Children of the Corn franchise began back in 1984, and to date includes nine films – nearly all of which went direct-to-video. In a nutshell, the series centers on a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believe everyone over the age of 18 must be killed.

Stay tuned for updates.
