Written and directed by Erdal Ceylan, Selfie from Hell is one of the most popular horror shorts in the history of the internet, already racking up nearly 17 million views since it premiered last August. Not surprisingly, the massive popularity of the short has ensured that a feature length expansion is on the way.

IndustryWorks Studios, the producers of American Mary, are turning the short into a feature, with Ceylan and his producing partner Meelah Adams attached to the project. The student filmmakers made the film for their bachelor’s thesis on the effects of viral videos, tapping into something horrifying in the process.

For many years we have dreamed of making a full-length movie,” said the duo. “With Selfie From Hell, this dream has now become a reality. We are very glad having found IndustryWorks to help make that happen and we very much look forward to working together.”

In Selfie from Hell, a young woman encounters a malevolent entity while trying to take the perfect selfie.
