Seemingly out of nowhere, we recently learned that Dimension Films is developing a brand new installment in the Children of the Corn franchise, and as we reported yesterday, it’s titled Children of the Corn: Runaway. Today brings official confirmation of the project, so read on for all the latest.

Per Bloody Disgusting, a press release sent out today noted that principal photography has begun on Runaway, though the release oddly made no mention of its connection to the Children of the Corn franchise. The film, which is certainly part of the franchise, is being shot in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Jon Gulager (Feast) is directing a script penned by Joel Soisson (Children of the Corn: Genesis).

Mike Leahy of Strike Accord is producing, in association with Gatlin Returns, Inc.

The franchise’s tenth installment follows a young pregnant woman who escapes a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town. She then spends the next decade living anonymously in an attempt to spare her son the horrors that she experienced as a child. She lands in the small Oklahoma town…but something is following her. Now, she must confront this evil or lose her child.

Apparently tying the new film into the 2009 Children of the Corn remake, the main character is Malachai’s girlfriend, Ruth.
