Alchemy’s continued financial troubles have forced them to part with many of the films they’ve recently acquired on the festival circuit, allowing other distribution companies to swoop in and gobble them up. Such is the case with Lucile Hadžihalilović’s festival hit Evolution, which has just found a new home.

Indiewire reports that IFC Midnight has acquired North American rights to the film. It premiered at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Vanguard section, and Alchemy had originally scooped up the rights back in August of last year.

With a screenplay by Hadžihalilović & Alanté Kavaïté, in collaboration with Geoff Cox, Evolution stars Max Brebant, Roxane Duran and Julie-Marie Parmentier.

The film was produced by Sylvie Pialat, Jérôme Vidal and Benoît Quainon and was executive produced by Pialat.

Synopsis:
A 10-year-old boy discovers a dead body in the sea just before he is brought to the hospital for a mysterious injection. Before long, something appears to be growing inside of him.
