Horror Safe Haven in Japan Needs Help!
Here at Dread Central we’re happy to get the word out about causes that we feel are worthy, and this certainly qualifies.
Yuya Ishikawa is a character actor based out of Tokyo. You might have seen him in Noboru Iguchi’s Machine Girl, Dead Sushi, and Robogeisha; Yoshihiro Nishimura’s Helldriver; or countless films from Sion Sono.
He also owns a small two-story bar in Tokyo’s historic Golden Gai district, where he serves drinks to Japan’s horror royalty and visiting genre icons nightly. It is his life. On April 12th, a massive fire broke out, destroying his top floor bar, Snack Honey, and damaging the ground floor bar, Darling. News reports now confirm it was caused by a mentally ill homeless man.
These bars were not only Yuya’s life, but his livelihood. Like all bars in the Golden Gai district, they were small, each seating eight to ten people in total. They were everything to him.
That said, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help Yuya get back on his feet and rebuild. The horror community is a family – and we’d like to show Yuya that he’s got support all around the world. He is absolutely one of us.
