Filming Begins on Bong Joon-Ho’s Monster Movie Okja
South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho (The Host, Snowpiercer) has assembled a star-studded cast for his next film Okja, which is set to hit Netflix in 2017. Along with some more casting news, today brings the good word that filming has begun, so read on for all the latest updates!
Netflix also serves as a producer on the film and provided us with some first look images and a storyboard.
Per Indiewire, the English and Korean-language film will shoot in South Korea, Canada, and the United States. They also report that Steven Yeun, best known for playing Glenn on “The Walking Dead,” has been added to the cast.
“With Okja I want to show the beauty that can exist between man and animal, and also the horror between them,” the director said.
Co-written by Jon Ronson, the film also stars Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Devon Bostick, Byun Heebong, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Yoon Je Moon, and Choi Wooshik. It introduces Ahn Seo-hyun as Mija.
Synopsis:
Okja follows Mija, a young girl who must risk everything to prevent a powerful, multi-national company from kidnapping her best friend: a massive animal named Okja.
