There are a ton of very cool looking big-budget movies coming out of Russia lately that easily rival their Hollywood counterparts in terms of production values. The latest is the vampire movie Guardians of the Night (original title: Nochnye Strazhi) from director Emilis Velyvis, which is drawing comparisons to the Night Watch series because of its similar premise, with them both being about secret organizations sworn to protect humankind from vampires.

In this case, an eighteen-year-old man named Pasha is recruited into the underworld organization after he inadvertently discovers the existence of vampires whilst rescuing a woman from being attacked. We’ll find out how deep the similarities to Night Watch truly are when Guardians of the Night hits Russian screens in August.
