Sigourney Weaver Talks Alien 5; First Look at Alien: Covenant
Yesterday was of course Alien Day, and as expected, a ton of news and excitement relating to the Alien franchise made the day an incredibly enjoyable one here in the Dread offices. Last night, the 24-hour fan event came to a close with a special screening of Aliens at New York locale The Town Hall, and Sigourney Weaver was on hand for a Q&A.
As reported by AVP Galaxy, Weaver answered some questions about Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5. Most excitingly, she teased that the film will be the “most satisfying” end to Ripley’s saga that we could ever hope for, and she also noted that the upcoming film will delve deeper into the relationship between Ripley and Hicks.
So if Hicks is still alive, and Newt is also coming back for Alien 5, does that mean the film will retcon the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection? Despite reports to the contrary, Weaver said that Blomkamp’s sequel will “run parallel” to both of those movies, rather than wipe them off the map completely.
Weaver even teased that iconic cat Jonesy may make an appearance.
On a related note, check out your very first official look at Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant, which is currently filming and will hit theaters on August 4, 2017!
The Alien: Covenant cast includes Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Katherine Waterston, Benjamin Rigby, Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, and Callie Hernandez.
Specific plot details for the new film are being closely guarded; but it is believed to follow the crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet, who discover what they believe is an uncharted paradise but is, in fact, a dark, dangerous world, the only inhabitant of which is David (Fassbender), the “synthetic” and survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
