The Forces of Heaven and Hell Wage War in Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse
Whilst most of them have been rated M, the past installments of the Japanese RPG franchise Shin Megami Tensei (official website) haven’t exactly been Dread-worthy; but the latest entry looks like it will really up the ante in terms of horror elements. The games in the series are usually set in different continuities, so it makes sense for this one to take an entirely different path.
The latest installment, titled Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (known as Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final in its native Japan), is set in the 2030s, after the Earth has been ravaged by a war between the demonic forces of Lucifer and the angelic forces of God. You play as a young man who was slain by demons and offered another shot at life on the condition that he serve as a avenging angel known as the God Killer. Judging from the trailer, this is also the bloodiest installment in the series thus far.
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse was released in February on the 3DS in Japan to great reviews, so expect nothing less when it hits US shores later this year.
