Russell Crowe Promises The Mummy Will Be Terrifying

Universal is going big, as in REALLY BIG, with its upcoming shared monsters universe, and the fun will begin with next year’s brand new take on The Mummy. As we announced last week, Russell Crowe has signed on to play a character named Dr. Henry Jekyll, and he promises it will be a straight-up horror film.

In an interview with Collider, Crowe teased the impending terror. Assuaging fears that the monster movie reboots would be more action than horror, as suggested by universe starter Dracula Untold, the actor assured that Alex Kurtzman’s version of The Mummy is being “designed to seriously scare the shit out of you.”

REJOICE!

The film stars Tom Cruise as a special forces soldier (or former soldier); Sofia Boutella, who is on board to play the iconic monster; Annabelle Wallis as the film’s female lead, an archaeologist; along with Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance.

The studio tapped Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan to help develop a monster universe for Universal with rebooted versions of classic monster movies. Kurtzman is also on board to produce alongside Morgan and Sean Daniel.

Jon Spaihts is penning the script. Plot details are vague other than the fact that the film will be set in the present day, unlike the previous three installments starring Brendan Fraser.

Universal executive VP of production Jon Mone and VP of development Jay Polidoro will oversee the project for the studio.
