Friday the 13th Meets Minecraft in New Game Slayaway Camp

The announcement of the Friday the 13th game last year seems to have caused something of a wave of summer camp horror games. The latest is the very satisfyingly titled Slayaway Camp (official website), the first game from Canadian indie developer Blue Wizard Digital.

Serving as a tribute to classic slasher movies, Slayaway Camp is a mobile puzzle game where you take control of the masked killer SkullFace, with your objective being to slaughter all the teens at a remote summer retreat deep in the wilderness. Don’t be fooled by the cutesy Minecraft style visuals; the murders in this game are as brutal as they come! Combine that with the grainy VHS visual quality, and slasher fans are sure in for a treat. I always felt that Minecraft needed more gore anyway.

From the Press Release:
A comically gruesome tribute to 80’s slasher flicks in the form of a mobile puzzle game, Slayaway Camp challenges the player to slaughter all the irritating teenage counselors at the title wilderness retreat. Cute voxel graphics can’t disguise the non-stop bloodbath of carnage these teens are in for when psycho killer SkullFace takes his revenge…

Developed by Blue Wizard Digital
Slayaway Camp is the first game from Blue Wizard Digital, a brand new indie studio based out of the remote wilds of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, with a satellite office in Berlin, Germany.

Blue Wizard was formed in 2015 by industry veteran Jason Kapalka, co-founder and chief game designer of PopCap Games, who has worked on such legendary titles as Bejeweled, Peggle, and Plants vs Zombies. Joining him are Ido Yehieli, the creator of the cult roguelike hit Cardinal Quest, and Nate Schmold, the indie auteur behind the PC title Cosmochoria (about which PewDiePie said: “aaaaaahhworglleareglewooooo.”)
